While the Rhodesian Brushstroke camo is often associated with military applications, its versatility has made it a popular choice among hunters, survivalists, and enthusiasts alike. If you're looking to master this art form and transform your rifle into a veritable chameleon of the wild, this comprehensive guide will equip you with the knowledge and techniques to achieve professional-looking results.

Gather the Essentials:

Before embarking on your rattlecan adventure, ensure you have the necessary tools and materials:

• Choose the gun you want to customize. For me, I chose my special purpose rifle with the Otter Creek Labs OCM5.
• Matte spray paints: Choose matte paints specifically designed for outdoor use. Opt for earth tones like green, brown, and tan, ensuring the colors complement your intended environment.
• Purchase Rhodesian Brushstroke stencils to have the greatest effect or create the pattern by hand.
• Drop cloths or plastic sheeting: Protect your workspace and surrounding areas from overspray.
• Painter's tape: Use painter's tape to mask off areas you want to remain unpainted, such as optics, sling mounts, or sensitive components. It's extremely important to tape off areas such as the lens and knobs that move.

Preparing the Rifle:

1. Clean and degrease the rifle: Thoroughly clean the rifle surface to remove any dirt, oil, or residue that could hinder paint adhesion.
2. Taping the rifle: Tape all areas that you do not want paint such as the magwell, interior and the trigger.

Applying the Rhodesian Brushstroke Camo:

1. Establish a base coat: Choose one of the earth-tone colors as your base coat. For mine, I chose to have OD Green as the base. Apply a thin, even layer of paint, allowing it to dry completely before proceeding. Around 15 minutes.
2. Create the brushstrokes: Lay down the first layers of stencils. Remember, how many you lay down now, will be how much of your base color that will show through at the end.
3. Spray your next color: For added depth and realism, incorporate a second earth-tone color. For mine, dark brown was sprayed. I then laid down a second layer of stencils. This time I added more stencils so more brown would be in the final product.
4. Last color: I sprayed the last layer of FDE. This will be the primary color since I live in Texas.
5. Peeling the stencils: Once the paint has dried. Pull the stencils and embrace your work! Tweezers will help here.
6. Embrace imperfection: The charm of the Rhodesian Brushstroke camo lies in its organic, irregular pattern. Don't strive for perfection; allow the brushstrokes to flow naturally.
7. Final touches: Once the paint is completely dry, be sure to take photos and make your friends jealous!
